Dr. Carla Maldonado is Director of Business Intelligence for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, official economic development organization for Broward County. The Alliance focuses on creating, attracting, expanding and retaining high-wage jobs and capital investment in high value targeted industries, developing more vibrant communities, and improving the quality of life for our area’s citizens.
Carla holds a BA in Business Administration, MA in Organizational Leadership, MA in Contemporary Diplomacy/International Relations and a PhD in Political Economy. Before joining the Alliance, she worked for the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland in the area of Creative Economy. She has previously worked for the Trade Office of Peru in Miami, the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC and the Nature Conservancy in Arlington, Virginia. Carla has global experience in North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Areas of specialty include international trade and investment, economic cooperation, SMEs, trade promotion, innovation and entrepreneurship, creative economy, urban development policies, return on investment, diplomatic protocol, economic impact analysis, business-to-business integration and data governance.
Carla has traveled extensively; studied, worked and volunteered abroad. Her roots in Peru, studies abroad, international field work understanding and experience working for international organizations has provided her with a global vision, a multicultural attitude and cross-cultural sensitivity.
Carla is committed to personal development, learning and service. She is involved with local chambers and non-profit organizations. She’s currently a Board member for the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce. As a volunteer for Hispanics Inspiring Students’ Performance and Achievement (HISPA), she speaks at local schools to encourage minorities to continue their education and follow strategies of success.
Carla is passionate about languages and traveling and is fluent in Spanish, French, Portuguese and has knowledge of Greek and German.
